Why we are retiring PartSmart 6 (Classic)

PartSmart Classic has been serving users worldwide for more than 15 years. We made this decision as part of our ongoing efforts to provide our customers with the best parts lookup software in the industries we serve. Sunsetting PartSmart Classic will allow the PartSmart team to support a single version of software – the version that nearly 95% of our customers use today – and focus on adding additional features and functionality that will make PartSmart an even more robust, valuable tool for dealers, distributors and manufacturers.

Why you should move to PartSmart 8.9

Based on input from many of you, we have made significant improvements since the introduction of the original PartSmart 8 in 2005. We have added features and functionality that makes PartSmart 8.9 a tool that we are confident will meet your current and future business needs.

When you move to PartSmart 8.9, not only will you continue to have access to the most up-to-date parts and pricing information available, but you’ll reap the benefits of additional features and functions that are only available in PartSmart 8.9 and future releases.

Here are just a few of the improvements and features available in PartSmart 8.9:

  • Faster Startup. We heard you. Changes have been made to PartSmart 8.9 that improve initial startup. To reap the full benefits of these changes, you must meet PartSmart Minimum System Requirements (See below for details).
  • Expanded Search. PartSmart 8.9 provides improved search capabilities that return up to 4 times as much information with a single click.
  • Improved Illustrations. PartSmart 8.9 supports larger, crisper, diagrams (some in color) to make it easier for you to view, read and find the part you are looking for.
  • Fewer Clicks. PartSmart 8.9 saves you time by opening on the Model Tab, with the cursor on the Model Name. It takes on average of 20% fewer clicks to move throughout PartSmart than the old Classic product.
  • Catalog Activation. PartSmart 8.9 uses a single, annual license key to activate your PartSmart subscription, eliminating the need to enter multiple verification codes throughout the year.
  • Thumbnail Illustrations. PartSmart 8.9 provides thumbnail views of up to 12 model images on a single screen, making it easier and faster to narrow your search for the appropriate assembly.
  • What’s New. PartSmart 8.9 uses an opening splash screen to alert you to new catalogs and important announcements as well as provide you with tips on how to get the most out of your PartSmart investment.
  • Internet Updates. PartSmart automatically keeps your parts pricing and software up to date with downloads via the Internet (Catalog content update will be coming soon!)

Minimum system specifications for running PartSmart 8.9

Hardware

  • 400 MHz Intel Pentium minimum, 2.0Ghz or higher recommended
  • 500MB on a hard drive; additional hard drive space may be required based on manufacturer.
  • 1GB RAM minimum for Windows XP.
  • 2GB RAM minimum for Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.
  • Screen resolution: 800 x 600 minimum; 1024 x 768 or greater recommended.
  • CD or DVD drive (Note: DVD is requires for Major Manufactures datasets)

Software and Operating Systems

  • Windows 2000 Professional workstation or Server, with Service Pack 3 or later.
  • Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 or later.
  • Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition RC2, Small Business Server RC2.
  • Windows Vista Business and Ultimate are supported: Home Basic and Home Premium are not supported.
  • Windows 7 (Professional only).
  • Windows Server 2008 Standard (RC2 and all Service Packs supported).
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 or higher.
